The Capital Connection is a popular commuter passenger train that runs between Palmerston North and Wellington from Monday to Friday excluding public holidays.

Large windows means you won’t miss any of the views as you travel and comfortable seating and a Buffet Carriage give you extra comfort you will enjoy.

As the Capital Connection is a popular commuter service, seats are not guaranteed. Fares are subject to change without notice and tickets can be purchased from the Train Manager onboard the Capital Connection.

Tranz Metro tickets and school passes are not accepted on the Capital Connection; however passengers are able to use Capital Connection tickets on Tranz Metro services.

February Monthly Ticket Special

Going back to work is hard enough so we are making it easier with a 5% discount! When purchasing a February monthly ticket for the Capital Connection. The 5% discount only applies to full calendar February monthly tickets. This offer does not apply to pro rata tickets or school term passes.

You can purchase your tickets from the Train Manager on the day of travel, or from a Capital Connection ticketing agent.
